Root Cellar

Cellars or root cellars were common place when I was a child. We had no electricity. There were no refrigerators or freezers. All that we had was the cellar.
Our cellar was built into the hill behind our house.  There we stored our vegetables, meat and eggs. The meat was usually mutton or moose. I recall seeing moose quarters hung from the ceiling. 
Also we had hens or chickens. There was plenty of hens eggs and we also ate ducks eggs. The cellar was where we also kept salt cod, dried caplin, salt meat and pork.
